Public Liability Insurance

Many types of events, when held on public property, require insurance coverage.

Public property includes City buildings, parks, streets and sidewalks.  Events held in such spaces, ranging from sporting competitions to block parties to to street fairs to concerts and dances often require insurance as part of the facility use agreement or event permit.

Event organizers may find the special-event coverage offered through SUMAssure a convenient and affordable option.

To check it out, go to sumassure.instantriskcoverage.com, create an account, and enter your event's information.   You'll get an instant quote, with no obligation.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Fill out all fields carefully
  • For venue locations that are not listed (such as streets, sidewalks and minor parks) choose "Municipal Property"
  • Choose the Event Type that best describes your event (e.g. a block party may be a 'non-Sporting Event", a street fair may be a "Blanket Vendor" event
    • The Event Type chosen determines the questions you are asked.  If the questions do not seem to align with your event, choose a different Event Type.
  • For sporting events and other active recreation, take note of the types of activities that must be specifically named in the application in order to be covered (see this helpful page for assistance and this list of all specific activities that are excluded unless named)

Best of luck with your event!
